The American Flagfish is a hardy and eye-catching species from the southeastern United States, named for the male’s vivid red, white, and blue pattern that resembles the American flag. Males develop intense colouration and a confident, territorial personality, while females are more subdued and larger in size. These fish are well known for their appetite for algae, making them both decorative and practical additions to planted aquariums. They thrive in well-planted tanks with open swimming space and moderate water movement.

Need to Know:

• Recommended For: Planted, community, and algae-control aquariums

• Minimum Tank Size: 60 litres

• Temperature Range: 22–28°C

• pH Range: 6.5–8.0

• Recommended School Size: Best kept as a small group with more females than males

• Compatibility: Semi-peaceful; avoid long-finned or very timid fish

• Max Size: 6–7 cm

All fish are shipped on Monday or Tuesday mornings via an overnight courier (Sometimes same day, location dependant). We use NZ Couriers for all livestock shipping, we find they handle your fish with the best possible care.

If you have any requests for gender/colour etc we will do our best to accomodate them. Please note we can not always accomodate every request due to high stock turnover and what is available at the time. We move all fish sold online into seperate holding tanks while they wait to be shipped.

Good news! If you are a rural customer, we can still ship fish to you. Fish will be shipped to your nearest agent and they will call you when they arrive. Please ensure you provide your mobile number when ordering.
