The Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) is a freshwater snail species commonly kept in aquariums. These snails are known for their striking appearance, large size, and interesting behaviors. Here are some key features and care guidelines for Apple Snails:

Size
Apple Snails can grow to a considerable size, often reaching 10 to 15 cm or even larger, depending on the species and environmental conditions.

Coloration
They come in various colors, including shades of brown, yellow, and pink. These guys are all a lovely golden colour.

Tank Setup
Provide a well-aerated aquarium with a secure lid, as Apple Snails are known to explore and may climb out of the water. They appreciate a planted tank with hiding spots and areas to graze on algae and will turn to the plants if not enough algae is provided.

Water Parameters
Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature range of 20-28°C and a pH level around 7.0 to 8.0. Ensure proper filtration, as snails are sensitive to ammonia and nitrite.

Diet
Apple Snails are primarily herbivores and enjoy eating algae, detritus, and leftover fish food. Supplement their diet with vegetable-based sinking pellets or blanched vegetables like spinach, zucchini, or lettuce.

Compatibility
Apple Snails are generally peaceful and can be kept in community aquariums with fish that won't harm or harass them. However, avoid keeping them with aggressive or predatory species.

Reproduction
Apple Snails are prolific breeders, and they lay their eggs above the waterline. The egg clutches look like pink or orange blobs and should be kept moist. If you have multiple Apple Snails, be prepared for potential reproduction.

Shell Health
Adequate calcium is essential for the health of their shells. Provide a source of calcium, such as a cuttlebone or calcium-rich foods, to promote proper shell growth. duck weed is an awesome natural calcium source.

Keep in mind that Apple Snails have been introduced to areas outside their native range, causing ecological issues in some regions. Therefore, it's crucial not to release them into natural water bodies. Always research and adhere to local regulations regarding the ownership and care of aquatic species.
