Banded Coral Shrimp (Stenopus hispidus)
Bold, striking, and packed with personality—the Banded Coral Shrimp is one of the most recognisable invertebrates in the reef hobby. With its red and white banded body, long antennae, and oversized “boxing” claws, it brings serious character to any marine setup.
Often seen hanging upside down in caves or crevices, this shrimp is constantly active—venturing out to scavenge and explore. It’s a great addition for adding movement and visual interest, especially in tanks with plenty of rockwork.
While generally peaceful with fish and corals, these shrimp can be territorial towards other shrimp, so it’s best to keep one per tank unless you have a confirmed mated pair.
Why you’ll love it:
- Iconic red and white striped appearance
- Unique “boxing” claws and behaviour
- Active and entertaining to watch
- Reef safe with fish and corals
- Great scavenger for leftover food

- Temperament: Semi-aggressive (towards other shrimp)
