Bicolour Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor)
A personality-packed reef fish with a bold two-tone colour split and algae-grazing habits
The Bicolour Blenny is a standout nano reef fish, easily recognised by its distinct colour split—deep blue to brown at the front and vibrant orange towards the tail. Full of character, these blennies spend their time perching on rockwork, darting between crevices, and watching everything going on in the tank.
Hardy and adaptable, they do best in aquariums with plenty of live rock to graze on and hide within. Bicolour Blennies will naturally pick at algae throughout the day, making them a useful addition for helping keep surfaces clean, though they should still be supplemented with quality foods.
Generally peaceful, they are well suited to reef tanks and community setups. However, they can be territorial towards similar-shaped fish like other blennies or small gobies, especially in smaller systems. Occasional nipping at fleshy corals or clam mantles can occur if underfed, but this is uncommon in well-maintained tanks.
