The Geophagus surinamensis, commonly called the Surinam Eartheater, is a beautiful South American cichlid with a shimmering silver body accented by red markings and iridescent blue-green highlights. True to its name, this species spends much of its time sifting sand through its mouth in search of food, making it a fascinating and functional addition to spacious aquariums. Despite its size, it is relatively peaceful and thrives in groups in tanks with soft substrate and calm tankmates.

• Recommended For: Large peaceful community or cichlid tanks

• Minimum Tank Size: 300 litres

• Temperature Range: 24–28°C

• pH Range: 6.0–7.5

• Recommended School Size: 5 or more for natural behavior

• Compatibility: Peaceful; great with other large, non-aggressive species

• Max Size: 25–30 cm
