Green Severum

A peaceful South American cichlid with subtle green tones and plenty of personality

The Green Severum is a classic South American cichlid admired for its rounded body shape, olive-green colouration, and attractive facial markings. As they mature, their colour and patterning become increasingly pronounced, making them an impressive centrepiece fish for larger freshwater aquariums.

Compared with many similarly sized cichlids, Severums are generally relatively peaceful, although adults can become territorial, particularly when forming pairs or breeding. They appreciate spacious aquariums with driftwood, rocks, sturdy plants, and plenty of open swimming room.

Temperature Range: 23–29°C
pH Range: 6.0–7.5
Recommended School Size: Single specimen, compatible pair, or group in a suitably large aquarium
Compatibility: Generally peaceful for a cichlid; best with medium to large fish and avoid very small tank mates
Max Size: Approximately 20–25 cm
