Pictus Catfish (Pimelodus pictus)

The Pictus Catfish is a popular freshwater species recognized for its silver body adorned with dark spots and its long, flowing whisker-like barbels. Active and fast-swimming, especially during the evening hours, the Pictus brings constant motion and interest to larger aquariums. While peaceful, it may eat very small tank mates, so it's best housed with similarly sized or larger peaceful species. It appreciates plenty of open swimming space and hiding spots like driftwood and caves.

• Recommended For: Larger community aquariums

• Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres

• Temperature Range: 22–26°C

• pH Range: 6.0–7.5

• Recommended School Size: Can be kept singly or in small groups (if space allows)

• Compatibility: Peaceful but predatory toward very small fish or shrimp

• Max Size: 12–16 cm
