Don't Size an Air Pump by Pond Litres Alone
There's no simple rule such as:
“4,000L pond = O2plus 4000.”
Air-pump requirements depend on:
- Fish stocking
- Fish size
- Water temperature
- Pond depth
- Number of air stones
- Air-stone size
- Airline length
- Existing water movement
The same applies to fish rooms.
You can't simply say:
“10 tanks = this pump.”
Ten shallow 40L fry tanks using small sponge filters have completely different requirements from ten deep 200L grow-out tanks running large sponge filters.
Pond or Aquarium Depth Matters
The deeper an air stone or sponge filter sits, the harder the air pump has to work to push air down to it.
That means aquarium depth and pond depth both matter.
If you're running a fish room with tall aquariums, you'll need more pressure than you would with shallow breeder tanks.
