Toxic Green Maze Fragment
The Toxic Green Maze Fragment is a hardy and eye-catching LPS coral that adds bold colour, texture, and structure to a reef aquarium. Also known as a Maze Coral or Brain Coral, Platygyra is recognised for its distinctive maze-like pattern made up of long, interconnected valleys and raised ridges.
This toxic green variety stands out beautifully under reef lighting, making it a great choice for reef keepers wanting a bright, textured coral for the lower to middle areas of the tank. As it grows, it slowly encrusts over the rockwork, creating a natural-looking reef structure with strong visual impact.
Toxic Green Maze Corals are generally resilient when kept in stable conditions, but they are not peaceful neighbours. Like many brain corals, they can extend sweeper tentacles at night and need space from surrounding corals.
Why Choose a Toxic Green Maze Fragment?
- Bright toxic green colour under reef lighting
- Classic maze-like brain coral pattern
- Hardy LPS coral in stable reef conditions
- Great for lower to middle rock placement
- Adds texture and structure to reef aquariums
- Suitable for mixed reefs and LPS coral gardens
Care Requirements
Toxic Green Maze Corals prefer moderate lighting, with a PAR range of around 75–150 being suitable for most reef aquariums. Placement in the lower to middle areas of the tank is usually best, depending on your lighting intensity.
Water flow should be moderate and indirect. The coral needs enough movement to keep its surface clean and prevent detritus from settling in the valleys, but it should not be blasted directly. Strong, direct flow may cause the coral to retract or become irritated.
While Platygyra are photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional target feeding. Offer small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or suitable LPS pellets once a week to support growth, colour, and overall health.
Recommended Water Parameters
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrate: low but detectable
- Phosphate: low but stable
Placement & Compatibility
Toxic Green Maze Corals can be aggressive and may extend long sweeper tentacles at night. Leave several inches of space around the coral to reduce the risk of it stinging nearby corals.
Place it on stable lower to middle rockwork where it has room to grow and encrust without coming into contact with other corals. Avoid placing it directly beside peaceful LPS, soft corals, SPS corals, or any coral that may be damaged by sweepers.
Best For
- Reef aquariums
- Mixed reef tanks
- LPS coral gardens
- Lower to middle rock placement
- Reef keepers wanting a hardy coral
- Aquarists wanting bright colour and strong texture
The Toxic Green Maze Fragment is a great choice for adding a classic brain coral look to your reef tank. With stable parameters, moderate lighting, indirect flow, and enough space from neighbouring corals, it can become a bold and reliable feature in your marine aquarium.
