Xtreme Nano 0.5mm Pellet
Xtreme Nano 0.5mm Pellet is a tiny, high-protein sinking fish food designed for nano fish, small tropical community fish and growing juvenile fish.
Originally developed as a fry food, the extremely small 0.5mm pellet size also makes it an excellent everyday food for species such as tetras, rasboras, guppies, small barbs and other fish that can struggle with larger pellets.
With 52% minimum protein and krill as the first ingredient, Nano is a nutrient-dense food where a surprisingly small amount goes a long way.
Why Choose Xtreme Nano?
The biggest reason to choose Nano is simple:
The pellet is genuinely tiny.
That makes it extremely useful for smaller fish that may have difficulty eating conventional 1mm or larger pellets.
We recommend it for:
-
Tetras
-
Rasboras
-
Guppies and other small livebearers
-
Small barbs
-
Danios
-
Small rainbowfish
-
Juvenile fish
-
Fry large enough to accept a 0.5mm pellet
-
Nano community aquariums
-
Smaller Corydoras and other fish that pick food from lower in the aquarium
The sinking behaviour also helps distribute food through different levels of the tank rather than having everything remain at the surface.
Who Is It For?
Xtreme Nano makes the most sense for aquariums containing small fish with small mouths.
If you're keeping Neon Tetras, Ember Tetras, small Rasboras or young community fish, this is exactly the sort of pellet we'd look at.
It's also useful in mixed community tanks because the tiny pellets disperse through the aquarium and can be picked off by many different fish.
For larger fish, we'd generally step up to a larger Xtreme pellet rather than feeding huge quantities of Nano.
How Small Is 0.5mm?
Very small.
A 0.5mm pellet is approximately half the diameter of a typical 1mm pellet.
That difference is significant when you're feeding very small tetras, rasboras or juvenile fish.
One of the most common mistakes with fish food is choosing pellets that are simply too large for the fish to comfortably eat.
If your fish repeatedly grab food and spit it back out, pellet size is one of the first things we'd look at.
Which Size Should I Buy?
Simply Fish currently stocks:
70g
Best for most home aquariums, smaller communities or trying Xtreme Nano for the first time.
142g
A good middle ground if Nano is one of your regular staple foods or you keep several small-fish tanks.
290g
Best value for heavily stocked tanks, multiple aquariums, breeders or fish rooms that use a significant amount of food.
Because the pellets are so small and nutrient dense, a little goes a long way.
For a normal home aquarium, don't assume you need the biggest container. We'd rather see you buy a sensible size and keep the food fresh.
How Do I Feed It?
Feed a small amount 2–3 times per day, offering only what your fish can consume within approximately 2–3 minutes.
Start with less than you think you need.
Because each pellet is tiny, it's very easy to pour significantly more food into the aquarium than you realise.
Watch the fish rather than measuring feeding by the amount coming out of the container.
If large quantities of food are reaching the bottom uneaten, reduce the amount at the next feeding.
Does It Sink?
Yes.
Xtreme Nano is a sinking pellet.
The tiny pellets gradually move down through the aquarium, which can work extremely well in community tanks because fish can feed from different areas of the water column.
This also gives fish that don't aggressively feed at the surface more opportunity to get food.
Nano Pellet vs Flake Food
Both can be excellent foods, but they behave differently.
Choose Nano Pellet if:
-
Your fish are very small
-
You prefer a measured pellet-style food
-
You want food to move through the water column
-
You're feeding juvenile fish
-
You keep nano community fish
-
You want a high-protein everyday food
Choose flake food if:
-
You have fish of very different sizes
-
You want to manually crumble food into different-sized pieces
-
Your fish strongly prefer feeding at the surface
-
You want food spread widely across the top of the aquarium
There's also nothing wrong with feeding both.
For many community aquariums, we'd rotate a good pellet such as Xtreme Nano with a quality flake and occasional frozen foods rather than relying on one food forever.

Simply Fish Recommends
If you've got small tropical fish, this is one of the easiest pellet foods for us to recommend.
The 0.5mm size solves a genuine problem.
A lot of foods advertised for tropical community fish still have pellets that are too large for small tetras and rasboras to comfortably eat. With Nano, you don't have to crush everything up before feeding it.
We particularly like it for tanks containing lots of small schooling fish.
Just remember that because the food is so small, it's incredibly easy to overfeed. Start with a tiny amount, watch how quickly it disappears and add more if required.
For a varied diet, we'd rotate Nano with a quality flake or other suitable foods rather than feeding exactly the same thing at every meal.
FAQ
What fish can eat Xtreme Nano 0.5mm pellets?
They're ideal for small tropical fish such as tetras, rasboras, guppies, small barbs, danios and juvenile fish.
Are the pellets really 0.5mm?
Yes. They're extremely small pellets designed for fish with small mouths.
Does Xtreme Nano float or sink?
It is a sinking pellet, allowing food to move through the aquarium rather than remaining entirely at the surface.
Can Neon Tetras eat Xtreme Nano?
Yes. The tiny 0.5mm pellet size makes Nano particularly well suited to small tetras.
Can I feed it to fry?
Nano was originally developed as a fry food. Whether it is suitable depends on the size and developmental stage of the fry; extremely small or newly hatched fry may still require finer specialist foods.
Can Corydoras eat Xtreme Nano?
They may readily pick up Nano pellets that reach the bottom, but for adult Corydoras we'd generally also provide an appropriate sinking bottom-feeder food rather than relying on Nano alone.
How often should I feed it?
Xtreme recommends feeding 2–3 times per day in amounts that are consumed within approximately 2–3 minutes.
Which container size should I buy?
For most normal home aquariums we'd start with 70g. The 142g and 290g options make more sense for heavily stocked aquariums, multiple tanks or people who already use Nano as a regular staple food.
Is 52% protein high for fish food?
It is a high-protein formula, with the product carrying a guaranteed minimum crude protein level of 52%.
Should Xtreme Nano be the only food I feed?
It can make an excellent staple food, but we generally prefer feeding a varied diet that may include other quality pellets, flakes, frozen foods or species-specific foods where appropriate.
