Yellow Candy Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus)
A bright yellow reef fish with subtle striping and two distinctive black spots
The Yellow Candy Hogfish is a vibrant and active addition to marine aquariums, showing off a bold yellow body accented by fine red striping and two clear black spots—one behind the eye and another near the tail. Constantly on the move, this species brings energy and colour to the tank as it weaves through rockwork in search of food.
Hardy and relatively easy to care for, this hogfish does best in aquariums with plenty of rock structure for hiding and exploring. It adapts well to captive life and is an enthusiastic feeder, readily accepting a variety of meaty foods including mysis, brine shrimp, and quality prepared diets.
Generally peaceful, the Yellow Candy Hogfish fits well into most community reef setups. However, like many hogfish, it may show interest in very small ornamental shrimp, especially in smaller systems or if underfed. Keeping it well fed and housed with suitable tank mates will minimise any issues.
